OPSGROUP is hiring! Wanted: Junior International Ops Specialist

OPSGROUP is hiring! We’re looking for someone to join our team, in the role of Junior International Ops Specialist.

This will suit someone with a couple of years experience in international flight operations (likely a Flight Dispatcher or Flight Operations Officer), who is looking to learn and grow within OPSGROUP.

You’ll assist with the daily work that we do for our members, and at the same time learn more than you can imagine about the weird and wonderful world of International Flight Operations. So for the right person, it’s a win-win.

A day in the life of an International Ops Specialist

When we say “Every day is different”, it’s actually true here. That’s the beauty of international flight ops – Monday is a problem on the North Atlantic, Tuesday is an ATC strike in France, Wednesday is a typhoon heading for Tokyo. But an overview of the things you would do are this:

🧑 Be helpful. Keep an eye on member messages: a request for help, or a notification of something new.
🧑 Fact check. Assess reports coming in, and communicate with CAA’s, FBO’s, ATC, Airports to get the lowdown on the latest risks and changes.
🧑 Write good. Write short, clear ops alerts in plain human-friendly English for our members. Also help compile regular daily and weekly email newsletters for members.
🧑 Research. Help research larger operational risks and changes, and write helpful, clear articles.
🧑 Talk, think, plot, plan, design, create. Take part in our Team chats, and help track new ideas for member tools, resources, useful articles, maps, and other fun things.
🧑 Help with Admin (yay!) Help coordinate our online chats, meetings, events. Keep our flight ops databases, member information, and airport info up to date.

Who are you?

As this is a junior role, we’re not expecting you to have twenty years experience – but you should have a solid basis in international flight operations: a couple of years at least. We’ll help take that foundation and expand your world; you’ll learn, grow, and take on new challenges here.

If you think you tick most of these boxes, this could be the role for you!

✅ Great energy. Friendly, sense of humour.
✅ International flight ops experience. Ideally 2 years minimum. Most importantly, you should have an understanding of what is relevant and important to flight ops, and what is not. What risks and changes would pilots and operators want to know about? What new info will have an impact on flights today, tomorrow, next week? Comfortable with basic principles (airspace, procedures, acronyms). Familiar with sources of info and dispatch tools (NOTAMs, State AIP/SUP/AICs, NOP, FAA NAAS, etc).
✅ English speaker, first language. Ability to write colloquially (not just formally).
✅ Keen to learn. We will teach you how to do the job, but we’re looking for someone towards the start of their career in International Flight Ops who is keen to expand their knowledge and skills with us.
✅ IT proficiency. Google Drive/Docs, Gmail, Zoom, Slack, Extra bonus points for: good sense of design, photo editing skills, knowledge of Mailchimp.
✅ Self-sufficiency. Comfortable working independently. But also confident to actively seek ways to help.
✅ Based in Europe. Or potentially Eastern US timezone.
✅ An Eager Beaver. Someone keen to be part of member chats, and to come up with new ideas for new member tools, resources, useful articles, maps, etc.

The deets

🕰️ Working hours: Weekdays (Monday-Friday), daytime hours, full-time. Target of 35 hours or so of work a week. Some weeks more, some weeks less – depends what’s going on.
💰 Payment: Monthly, fixed-rate.
🏡 Location: Your house, cabin, apartment, garden, boat, co-working space – wherever you have a quiet spot to yourself and some decent internet.
