{"id":972,"date":"2016-01-09T09:29:33","date_gmt":"2016-01-09T14:29:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/?p=972"},"modified":"2017-01-18T15:38:40","modified_gmt":"2017-01-18T20:38:40","slug":"shanwick-new-nat-procedure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/shanwick-new-nat-procedure\/","title":{"rendered":"Shanwick\/Gander: New NAT procedure &#8211; Confirm Assigned Route"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Coming soon to an FMS near you will be a new standard message from Oceanic ATC: \u201c<b>Confirm Assigned Route<\/b>\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If you\u2019ve operated on the \u2018half-tracks\u2019 in the NAT recently, you\u2019ll have seen this.\u00a0So, what\u2019s it all about?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Short and simple<\/b>: with the half-tracks, the potential for Nav Errors are now (quite a lot, perhaps) higher than before. Waypoints are that bit more\u00a0complicated, and 5030N 30W is a little too similar to 50N 30W.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">So, to prevent you reading back the clearance correctly and then screwing up the route in the FMS, Shanwick (and Gander from 01DEC16) will ask you via datalink \u201c<b>What are you\u00a0planning to fly?<\/b>\u201d once you enter the Ocean.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">All you have to do is ack the message, scroll through your route and check it looks OK, and send it back down to them. If it\u2019s the same as your\u00a0clearance, then that\u2019s that. If not, or you don\u2019t reply, you\u2019ll get an additional telegram from Shanwick.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Each aircraft has a different FMS of course, so the good people at NATS have issued <b>AIC 071\/16<\/b> to help you &#8211; it covers the A320-340, 350\/380, and\u00a075,\/76, 77. If you fly a business jet, one of those should be pretty similar to yours. And if you\u2019re operating something a little older, keep the radio\u00a0operators in Ballygirreen and Gander happy with a full position report.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_976\"
