{"id":952,"date":"2016-11-09T17:25:30","date_gmt":"2016-11-09T22:25:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/?p=952"},"modified":"2016-11-09T17:56:48","modified_gmt":"2016-11-09T22:56:48","slug":"end-of-canada-leniency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/end-of-canada-leniency\/","title":{"rendered":"An eTA is now required to enter Canada &#8211; November 10, 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this year Canada introduced a requirement for an eTA &#8211; like the US Esta.<\/p>\n<p>For a while, it was OK to travel without one. <strong>That\u2019s now over\u00a0&#8211; you need one<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>As of November 10, 2016<\/strong>, travellers with passports from eTA-required countries who enter Canada by air will need an eTA.<\/p>\n<p>The leniency period ended on <strong>November 9, 2016: <\/strong>during this period you could have boarded your flight without an eTA, as long as you had appropriate travel documents such as a valid passport. During the leniency period, border services officers can let you enter the country as long as you meet the other requirements to enter Canada.<\/p>\n<p>The authorization is electronically linked to your passport and is valid for five years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.<\/p>\n<p>Applying for an eTA is a simple and inexpensive ($7 Canadian) online process that will take just a few minutes.
