{"id":8191,"date":"2019-10-01T10:48:24","date_gmt":"2019-10-01T14:48:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/?p=8191"},"modified":"2019-11-01T08:30:32","modified_gmt":"2019-11-01T12:30:32","slug":"five-months-of-misery-at-mumbai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/five-months-of-misery-at-mumbai\/","title":{"rendered":"Five months of misery at Mumbai"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">Airlines and operators are preparing for <strong>major peak-hour disruption<\/strong> at VABB\/Mumbai Airport, on account of a <strong>partial<\/strong> <strong>shutdown of the main runway<\/strong> over the next five months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The main runway will be closed for repairs from 4th Nov 2019 to 28th Mar 2020, between 0930-1730 local time, Mondays to Saturdays. The second runway will be operational during this time, but this can only handle 36 flights per hour &#8211; which is around 80% of the regular traffic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The main runway will remain open on all the big festivals and holiday dates during this period: Dec 25, Jan 1 &amp; 15, Feb 19 &amp; 21, Mar 10 &amp; 25.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This is the second time this year that Mumbai airport has enforced a partial runway shutdown. The first instance, which lasted from Feb 7 to March 30, was for repair works at the intersection of the two runways, which lead to peak hour closures.<\/p>\n<p>This new closure has been announced through a combination of <a href=\"https:\/\/pilotweb.nas.faa.gov\/PilotWeb\/notamRetrievalByICAOAction.do?method=displayByICAOs&amp;formatType=ICAO&amp;retrieveLocId=vabb&amp;reportType=RAW&amp;actionType=notamRetrievalByICAOs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Notam<\/a> (for Nov 4 to Nov 7), and <a href=\"https:\/\/aim-india.aai.aero\/sites\/default\/files\/aip_supplements\/AIPS_2019_136.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AIP SUP<\/a> (for Nov 7 to Mar 28).<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p1\">Other things worth knowing:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\">It\u2019s not showing on the Notams, but local handlers have confirmed that <strong>VABB\/Mumbai is closed to GA\/BA flights daily<\/strong> at the following local times: 0800-1000, 1730-1930, 2115-2315, 0320-0400.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><strong>VASU\/Surat<\/strong> airport may be a good alternate for VABB\/Mumbai (120NM away). It became an international airport of entry in Feb 2019 and has a 2250 metre long runway with ILS. The next nearest airports are VOGO\/Goa (230NM away), or VAAH\/Ahmedabad (240NM away).<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">The <strong>ADS-B mandate<\/strong> across Indian airspace outlined in <a href=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/dashboard\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/AIPS_2018_148_ADS_B-Mandate-India.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AIP SUP 148\/2018<\/a> that was due to take effect on 1st Jan 2019, has now been<strong> delayed to 1st Jan 2020<\/strong>.
