{"id":7011,"date":"2020-03-09T14:16:15","date_gmt":"2020-03-09T18:16:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/?p=7011"},"modified":"2024-07-11T06:38:03","modified_gmt":"2024-07-11T10:38:03","slug":"hong-kong-ops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/hong-kong-ops\/","title":{"rendered":"Ops to Hong Kong are getting easier"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p class=\"p1\">Following months of disruption in Hong Kong due to anti-government protests and then the coronavirus outbreak, the airport has decided to <strong>relax its &#8220;use-it-or-lose-it&#8221; rule for slots<\/strong> until the end of October 2020. This means airlines are allowed to keep their slots even if they don&#8217;t use them.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\">The decision <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/hong-kong\/transport\/article\/3074419\/hong-kong-aviation-authorities-relax-slot-rules-so\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">follows calls for a relaxation of the policy<\/a> to prevent carriers from <strong>flying empty planes<\/strong> between destinations to maintain the rights.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cGiven the latest development of Covid-19, and in line with the recommendation made by IATA, it has been decided that alleviation of slot usage requirement at Hong Kong International Airport will be effective for the whole of the Summer 2020 Season,\u201d a Civil Aviation Department spokeswoman said.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\">This means the airlines (particularly Cathay Pacific!) will now be able to announce cuts to their schedules through to October this year. So, good news for them, but also <strong>good news for GA\/BA operators<\/strong>, as the overall reduction in traffic will mean that a lot more slots will now become available.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p4\">Since Oct 2018, Hong Kong Airport has been providing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Notice-from-Hong-Kong-Schedule-Coordination-Office-regarding-GABA-Night-and-Ad-hoc-Slots-04-Mar-2020.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">six slots to GA\/BA each night<\/a>\u00a0between 1600-2059z, which you can apply for up to\u00a014 days in advance online using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hkgslot.gov.hk\/Online_Coordination.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">OCS system<\/a>. You can also use the system to <strong>request any unused or cancelled daytime slots up to 2 days in advance<\/strong>. All of these need to be applied for individually. We recommend applying in this order. Ultimately, the earlier you apply the better. However, parking requests for 5 days or more can sometimes be rejected, and overnight parking is often denied during busy periods. If this happens, unfortunately the best strategy is still to just keep making new applications until you get accepted! Authorities monitor the slot system for intentional misuse &#8211; which could lead to operators being banned from using the system altogether. In summary, the new advice is this: do NOT slow to less than 125kts on final approach speed to ensure that following traffic does not have to execute a go-around; and when landing on RWY 07L, make sure you get off the runway at taxiway A7 within 50 seconds.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Dec 2018:<\/strong> Hong Kong <a href=\"http:\/\/ops.group\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/AIC26-18.pdf.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"published an AIC  (opens in a new tab)\">published an AIC <\/a>saying that GA\/BA aircraft are taking too long vacating the runway after landing. They want pilots to \u201cconsider minimizing braking to reduce the deceleration rate on the landing roll so as to be able to vacate runway expeditiously via the first available RET.\u201d<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Oct 2018:<\/strong> Following lobbying by AsBAA, the trial to increase the number of night-time slots available to GA\/BA was <a href=\"https:\/\/asbaa.org\/asbaa-breakthrough-slots-hong-kong-international-airport\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"extended until the end of March 2019 (opens in a new tab)\">extended until the end of March 2019<\/a>, with 6 slots available instead of 4 as before.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Sep 2018: <\/strong>Chinese authorities launched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-hongkong-china-train\/all-aboard-hong-kong-bullet-train-signals-high-speed-integration-with-china-idUSKCN1M301T\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"the Bullet Train rail link (opens in a new tab)\">the Bullet Train rail link<\/a> between Guangzhou and Hong Kong. Travel time between the two cities is now approximately only 40 minutes (previously crews needed to take a ferry, or else face a long car journey!)<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Jun 2018:<\/strong> Airport issued <a href=\"https:\/\/pilotweb.nas.faa.gov\/PilotWeb\/notamRetrievalByICAOAction.do?method=displayByICAOs&amp;formatType=ICAO&amp;retrieveLocId=vhhh&amp;reportType=RAW&amp;actionType=notamRetrievalByICAOs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Notam A1792\/18 (opens in a new tab)\">Notam A1792\/18<\/a> prohibiting reduced or single engine taxi out &#8211; all engines must be started before commencement of taxi for takeoff.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Jun 2018:<\/strong> Hong Kong issued <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ais.gov.hk\/HKAIP\/aic\/AIC13-18.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"AIC 13\/18 (opens in a new tab)\">AIC 13\/18<\/a> to remind operators to stick closely to ILS procedures for Runway 07\/25.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Apr 2016:<\/strong> You now need <a href=\"http:\/\/ops.group\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/VH-GEN-1.5.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"RNP1 (opens in a new tab)\">RNP1<\/a> to operate to Hong Kong.\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><em>Have you been through Hong Kong recently?
