{"id":5964,"date":"2023-11-01T01:07:07","date_gmt":"2023-11-01T05:07:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/?p=5964"},"modified":"2023-11-08T08:10:49","modified_gmt":"2023-11-08T13:10:49","slug":"shanghai-airports-meltdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/shanghai-airports-meltdown\/","title":{"rendered":"The Annual Shanghai Airports Meltdown"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6>Key Points<\/h6>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Shanghai\u2019s ZSSS\/Hongqiao and ZSPD\/Pudong airports are effectively off-limits to bizav flights at the start of November, unless you&#8217;re heading to the China International Import Expo event.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Operators will need to consider nearby airports instead: ZSWX\/Wuxi, ZSHC\/Hangzhou, ZSNJ\/Nanjing and ZSNB\/Ningbo.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">You won\u2019t find it on the Notams, but there are some restrictions coming up in November at Shanghai\u2019s ZSSS\/Hongqiao and ZSPD\/Pudong airports which effectively ban most business\/private flights.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">It&#8217;s the same meltdown every year in Shanghai. It\u2019s all to do with the annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ciie.org\/zbh\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">China International Import Expo<\/a> event (CIIE) &#8211; which this year will be held from Nov 5-10.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the restrictions at the main airports to watch out for this year:<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p1\">ZSSS\/Hongqiao<\/h4>\n<p>From Nov 2-8, no\u00a0business\/private flights allowed, including those flights participating in CIIE.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p1\">ZSPD\/Pudong<\/h4>\n<p>From Nov 2-13,\u00a0the airport will only accept participating CIIE business\/private flights. Quick turns (if not participating in CIIE) are not allowed.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also worth noting these two extra restrictions at ZSPD which apply year-round:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Take-off and landing is prohibited between 07-09 local time (23-01z).<\/li>\n<li>Business\/private flights are not allowed to have two peak hour slots between 09-22 local time (01-14z). So you can land during that period, but then you have to wait until 22 local time before you can depart!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Where else to go?<\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\">For non-CIIE flights wanting to go to Shanghai during this period, the alternative options may be limited, as parking will fill-up quickly at nearby airports <strong>ZSWX\/Wuxi,<\/strong> <strong>ZSHC\/Hangzhou, ZSNJ\/Nanjing and ZSNB\/Ningbo.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-23803\" src=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Shanghai-Airports-1024x676.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"676\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Shanghai-Airports-1024x676.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Shanghai-Airports-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Shanghai-Airports-768x507.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Shanghai-Airports-1536x1014.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Shanghai-Airports-2048x1352.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the lowdown on those four airports:<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p1\">ZSWX\/Wuxi<\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\">Operating hours? <span style=\"color: #000080;\">H24. But bizjets can only go here between 0700-2300 local time (and Customs are only open from 0830-2300). Outside those hours, you need permission from the airport authority.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nDoes it have an FBO? <span style=\"color: #000080;\">Yes, but only for domestic flights.<\/span><br \/>\nDriving time to Shanghai? <span style=\"color: #000080;\">2hrs (130km)<\/span><br \/>\nOther restrictions? <span style=\"color: #000080;\">You need permission from the military to operate here. Overnight parking is generally not allowed (and there&#8217;s no hangar for bizjets).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p1\">ZSHC\/Hangzhou<\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\">Operating hours? <span style=\"color: #000080;\">H24.<\/span><br \/>\nDoes it have an FBO? <span style=\"color: #000080;\">Yes, but only for domestic flights.<\/span><br \/>\nDriving time to Shanghai? <span style=\"color: #000080;\">2hrs 30mins (180km)<\/span><br \/>\nOther restrictions? <span style=\"color: #000080;\">They don\u2019t issue arrival\/departure slots to business\/private flights between 0700-0859 local time.
