The FAA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/documentLibrary\/media\/Advisory_Circular\/AC_90-117.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Advisory Circular AC 90-117<\/a> outlines the requirements for U.S. operators.<\/p>\n<p>Trials have begun with <strong>KZID\/Indianapolis going live with 24\/7 ops<\/strong> starting last week.<\/p>\n<p>We also understand that<strong> KZME\/Memphis<\/strong> and<strong> KZKC\/Kansas City<\/strong> are still in the testing phase with CPDLC and voice read back happening 1-2 nights per week during the midnight shift.<\/p>\n<p>The current deployment schedule as it stands can be found in this graphic. If En Route FANS CPDLC enabled airspace is active, you will stay logged on. If the aircraft transitions from En Route FANS CPDLC enabled airspace into non-Data Link airspace with an active CPDLC connection then the connection will terminate approximately seven minutes after exiting.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To participate<\/strong>,\u00a0file &#8220;<strong>DAT\/FANSE<\/strong>&#8221; in <strong>Field 18<\/strong> of the ICAO <strong>Flight Plan<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Equipment required<\/strong> is VDL Mode 2, indicated as &#8220;<strong>J4<\/strong>&#8221; in<strong> Field 10a of the ICAO Flight Plan<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>If an operator wants to use domestic En Route FANS CPDLC <strong>and<\/strong> <strong>is already using<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/code7700.com\/communications_pdc_dcl.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FANS DCL<\/a>\u00a0then the the majority of operations will fall into one of these scenarios:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>(1)<\/strong> The operator uses FANS DCL <strong>via<\/strong> the<strong> &#8220;DAT\/1FANS2PDC&#8221; preference in Field 18 of the ICAO Flight Plan.<\/strong> In that case,<strong>\u00a0update<\/strong> the preference to &#8220;<strong>DAT\/1FANSE2PDC<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/li>\n<li><strong>(2)\u00a0<\/strong>The operator uses FANS DCL <strong>via<\/strong> the <strong>FAA&#8217;s Subscriber Database.<\/strong> In that case, the operator will want to add the entry &#8220;<strong>DAT\/FANSE<\/strong>&#8221; in Field 18 of the Flight Plan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Some things to keep in mind:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Domestic En Route FANS CPDLC enabled airspace will be seamlessly integrated with <strong>foreign<\/strong> (Canadian) and <strong>Oceanic<\/strong> FANS CPDLC enabled airspace.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>Oceanic Clearance will not be delivered via FANS CPDLC<\/strong>.
