{"id":4103,"date":"2018-04-03T18:30:52","date_gmt":"2018-04-03T22:30:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/?p=4103"},"modified":"2019-12-16T16:27:43","modified_gmt":"2019-12-16T21:27:43","slug":"expect-breathalyzer-during-german-ramp-checks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/expect-breathalyzer-during-german-ramp-checks\/","title":{"rendered":"Expect breathalyzer during German Ramp checks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><strong>German authorities confirm they have been conducting random breathalyzer tests during ramp checks since as far back as Jan 2017, despite this not being part of the official\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.easa.europa.eu\/easa-and-you\/air-operations\/ramp-inspection-programmes-safa-saca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">EU SAFA ramp inspection guidelines.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In Dec 2016, following the accident of the Germanwings Flight 9525, EASA published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easa.europa.eu\/newsroom-and-events\/news\/pilot-mental-fitness-easa-puts-forward-new-rules-air-operations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>a proposal to the European Commission<\/strong><\/a> to better support pilot mental fitness. One of their recommendations was to introduce random alcohol screening as a part of ramp checks within the EU.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Although that proposal has still not been adopted yet, local authorities in Germany say they can still perform these tests on the basis of German national law alone.<\/p>\n<p>Have you had a recent ramp check anywhere with any surprise items not part of the standard checklist?
