{"id":3664,"date":"2018-02-19T13:30:47","date_gmt":"2018-02-19T18:30:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/?p=3664"},"modified":"2018-02-19T13:30:47","modified_gmt":"2018-02-19T18:30:47","slug":"greenland-fir-to-change-its-name","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/greenland-fir-to-change-its-name\/","title":{"rendered":"Greenland FIR to change its name"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The BGGL\/Sondrestrom FIR, that covers all of Greenland&#8217;s airspace, is changing its name to the \u2018Nuuk\u2019 FIR, effective Mar 1. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This name change has come about following the reallocation, during autumn 2014, of the COM Centre, Rescue Coordination Centre and the Flight Information Centre from BGSF\/Kangerlussuaq Airport (commonly referred to as Sondrestrom airport) to Greenland&#8217;s capital, Nuuk.<\/p>\n<p>So &#8220;Nuuk Information\u201d is the new identification\/radio callsign for the aeronautical station serving the Flight Information Centre in Greenland; whereas \u201cNuuk AFIS&#8221; will still get you through to the aerodrome flight information service at BGGH\/Nuuk Airport.<\/p>\n<p>You can read the full AIC <a href=\"https:\/\/aim.naviair.dk\/media\/files\/bpganz4bdfi\/BG_Circ_2018_A_01_en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Further reading:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Do you use BGBW\/Narsarsuaq as a trans-atlantic alternate?
