After some early teething issues, security approval for international flights has been granted and the Notam restricting GA\/BizAv traffic has been cancelled.<\/p>\n<p>Basic info:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"659\" data-end=\"897\">\n<li data-section-id=\"1y98i1w\" data-start=\"659\" data-end=\"700\"><strong>Runway:<\/strong> 1501 x 30m (asphalt, Code 3C)<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1teszm1\" data-start=\"701\" data-end=\"750\"><strong>Approaches:<\/strong> RNP LNAV\/VNAV only (no precision)<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"6v45ci\" data-start=\"751\" data-end=\"792\"><strong>Airspace:<\/strong> AFIS, Class G with 20NM RMZ<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1r0lksb\" data-start=\"793\" data-end=\"860\"><strong>Fire cover:<\/strong> up to CAT 7 (with prior notice for larger aircraft)<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"11nhtjn\" data-start=\"861\" data-end=\"897\"><strong>Fuel:<\/strong> Jet A1 and AvGas available<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can find full info on BGQO in the AIP <a href=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/BGQO-compressed.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>All non-scheduled flights require <strong>PPR at least 12 hours before arrival.<\/strong> A local agent advises that slots may be limited initially as the airport ramps up operations. This is not the usual Greenland &#8220;call ahead and hope&#8221; setup. Expect to provide accurate ETAs and obtain approval in advance, including for alternate use. Published hours are Mon-Sat 0900-1800z, closed Sundays and holidays. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you operate there, we\u2019d appreciate an <a href=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/spyreport\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Airport Spy<\/a> report!<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p1\">BGBW\/Narsarsuaq<\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Narsarsuaq closed to fixed-wing traffic on 17 Apr 2026<\/strong>\u00a0(when BGQO\/Qaqortoq was supposed to become operational). So arrivals and departures are no longer accepted and the airport has transitioned to heliport-only ops for the local community.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1968\" data-end=\"2003\">Operationally, nothing has changed:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2005\" data-end=\"2107\">\n<li data-section-id=\"wx6b4g\" data-start=\"2005\" data-end=\"2022\"><strong>Runway: 1800m<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1qswq8i\" data-start=\"2023\" data-end=\"2057\"><strong>Approaches: non-precision only<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"18ogmgi\" data-start=\"2058\" data-end=\"2107\"><strong>Frequent poor weather and terrain constraints<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-29260 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/BGBW-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1439\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/BGBW-scaled.jpg 2560w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/BGBW-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/BGBW-1024x575.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/BGBW-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/BGBW-1536x863.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/BGBW-2048x1151.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p1\">BGSF\/Sondrestrom<\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\">Plans to downgrade Sondrestrom from ATC to AFIS have been cancelled. In one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/BG_Circ_2025_A_02_en-aflyst.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shortest AICs<\/a> we\u2019ve ever seen, Naviair confirmed that BGSF would remain <strong>fully controlled<\/strong> until further notice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Word from behind the scenes is that it was recently evaluated that ongoing demand for BGSF was solid enough to warrant <strong>full ATC.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Operationally, this is still the most reliable Greenland alternate:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Runway: 2800m<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Fewer terrain issues than coastal airports<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Generally more stable weather<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you want something predictable in central Greenland, this is still the go-to.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p1\">BGGH\/Nuuk<\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\">Nuuk is now fully established as a jet-capable airport with a <strong>2200m runway<\/strong>, <strong>ILS approaches at both ends<\/strong>, and regular airline traffic. On paper, it is now a very capable NAT alternate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The only current Notam limitation is that <strong>parking on all aprons is limited to a maximum of 72 hours <\/strong>(PERM Notam).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The bigger thing to watch now is a coming airspace change, from 14 May 2026:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3025\" data-end=\"3308\">\n<li data-section-id=\"1mevwqe\" data-start=\"3025\" data-end=\"3095\"><strong>A TMA (Class C) when Nuuk Approach is active (roughly 08-23 local)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"17q3lpv\" data-start=\"3096\" data-end=\"3172\"><strong>ADS-B required for all flights in the TMA up to FL195 during those hours<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1doveey\" data-start=\"3173\" data-end=\"3225\"><strong>Outside those hours, airspace reverts to Class G<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1n6cj5o\" data-start=\"3226\" data-end=\"3308\"><strong>At night, ADS-B not required, but prior coordination with Nuuk ATC is required<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"3310\" data-end=\"3340\">See <a href=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/greenland-nat-alternates-dec-2025-update\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AIC 1-26<\/a> for full details of all that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">So the picture at BGGH\/Nuuk is much better than it was a few months ago &#8211; but it\u2019s still not totally straightforward. It is usable again, but with tighter airspace rules and some practical limits like the 72-hour parking cap.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_29264\" style=\"width: 851px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-29264\" class=\"size-full wp-image-29264\" src=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Nuuk-Chart.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"841\" height=\"595\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Nuuk-Chart.jpg 841w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Nuuk-Chart-300x212.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Nuuk-Chart-768x543.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 841px) 100vw, 841px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-29264\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nuuk has been significantly expanded to accommodate large jet aircraft.<\/p><\/div>\n<h4 class=\"p1\">BGJN\/Ilulissat<\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\">The new 2200m runway at BGJN\/Ilulissat is <strong>still due to open in Fall 2026.<\/strong> Once open, this will give northern Greenland another serious jet-capable airport, broadly similar to BGGH\/Nuuk.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p1\">A reminder about after-hours fees<\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\">Look out for <a href=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/greenbacks-and-greenland\/\"><span class=\"s1\">surprise fees<\/span><\/a> if you use <strong>BGBW\/Narsarsuaq<\/strong> or <strong>BGSF\/Sondrestrom<\/strong> as alternates after hours (overnight 20-11z or anytime on Sundays). You will be charged the better part of $3000 USD to keep standby equipment on watch, and runways clear of snow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Some insider advice &#8211; advance notice reduces the cost.<\/strong> If you need one of these cheaper outside of normal operating hours, provide at least 24 hours\u2019 notice.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p1\">Bottom line<\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"75\">Greenland is mid-transition right now, but with a bigger gap than expected:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"77\" data-end=\"363\">\n<li data-section-id=\"ngk7ar\" data-start=\"77\" data-end=\"141\"><strong>BGQO has opened<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1bq4lkt\" data-start=\"142\" data-end=\"183\"><strong>BGBW has closed<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1jqv2og\" data-start=\"184\" data-end=\"297\"><strong>BGGH is now the main southern option and generally dependable, but with some airspace and parking limitations<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"js188z\" data-start=\"298\" data-end=\"363\"><strong>BGSF remains the most reliable and predictable option overall<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 class=\"p1\">A special thanks to our agent in the field<\/h4>\n<p>Spare a thought for the unsung hero of this article.
