There are no new airspace restrictions to report, and OTHH\/Doha is operating normally. Flight tracking indicates that major airlines are still overflying Qatari airspace. Despite this, continue to monitor the situation closely. The diplomatic response to this event is still unfolding &#8211; sudden airspace closures are possible if the situation escalates. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<h6 data-start=\"328\" data-end=\"527\"><strong>Original story &#8211; Sep 9:<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p data-start=\"328\" data-end=\"527\">The Doha FIR might be small geographically, but it\u2019s strategically important. A huge chunk of regional traffic passes through here, especially flights heading between the UAE and Europe that want to avoid Iranian airspace.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"328\" data-end=\"527\"><strong>And now there&#8217;s a new rule:<\/strong> if you&#8217;re flying in the northern portion of the OTDF\/Doha FIR, you need to submit a flight notification if you plan to use certain offshore routes.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"328\" data-end=\"527\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.caa.gov.qa\/en\/aeronautical-information-management\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-28528 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Qatar-AIP-flight-permissions-1024x620.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"620\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Qatar-AIP-flight-permissions-1024x620.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Qatar-AIP-flight-permissions-300x182.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Qatar-AIP-flight-permissions-768x465.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Qatar-AIP-flight-permissions-1536x931.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Qatar-AIP-flight-permissions.jpg 1550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"529\" data-end=\"879\">These routes don\u2019t require permission to fly \u2013 that hasn\u2019t changed \u2013 but you do now <strong>need to tell Qatar CAA in advance that you\u2019re going to be there.<\/strong> The notification is submitted through the <a href=\"https:\/\/caa.gov.qa\/en\/non-scheduled-flights-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">QCAA\u2019s online portal<\/a>, the same place you\u2019d normally go for overflight permits.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"529\" data-end=\"879\">The new rule came in on 4 Sep 2025, and applies to all &#8220;non-scheduled&#8221; operators (includes charter flights, private operators, ad-hoc flights &#8211; basically everything other than airline flights).<\/p>\n<h4 data-start=\"881\" data-end=\"904\">The affected routes<\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"905\" data-end=\"951\">The rule applies specifically to these routes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"905\" data-end=\"951\"><strong data-start=\"954\" data-end=\"967\">M677\/M708<\/strong> (ASROK\/OBNET)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"905\" data-end=\"951\"><strong data-start=\"986\" data-end=\"999\">P559\/L704<\/strong> (BORUK\/NALPO)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"905\" data-end=\"951\"><strong data-start=\"1018\" data-end=\"1036\">L602\/T557\/M600<\/strong> (TUMAK\/EGNIM)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"905\" data-end=\"951\"><strong data-start=\"1055\" data-end=\"1068\">L768\/M556<\/strong> (ALPOB\/OBROS)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1086\" data-end=\"1171\">These are the offshore routes running north of Qatar, in international waters.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1086\" data-end=\"1171\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-28540\" src=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Qatar-Airspace-split-1024x787.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"787\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Qatar-Airspace-split-1024x787.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Qatar-Airspace-split-300x231.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Qatar-Airspace-split-768x591.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Qatar-Airspace-split-1536x1181.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Qatar-Airspace-split.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4 data-start=\"1173\" data-end=\"1202\">Why the new rule?<\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"213\" data-end=\"289\">First, a quick refresher on who controls what inside the Doha FIR:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"293\" data-end=\"419\"><strong data-start=\"293\" data-end=\"346\">The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">southern<\/span> part of the OTDF\/Doha FIR:<\/strong> Qatar controls everything, from SFC-UNL.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"293\" data-end=\"419\"><strong>The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">northern<\/span> part of the OTDF\/Doha FIR:<\/strong> This part covers international waters, not Qatari territory. Operationally, ATC responsibility here still switches at FL245 \u2014 Qatar handles traffic below this level, and Bahrain handles traffic above it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>The rule is simple<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong data-start=\"1189\" data-end=\"1244\">Flying in the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">southern<\/span> part of the OTDF\/Doha FIR:<\/strong> Standard overflight permit required \u2014 no changes.<\/li>\n<li><strong data-start=\"1299\" data-end=\"1349\">Flying in the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">northern<\/span> part of the OTDF\/Doha FIR: <\/strong>Submit a flight notification via the QCAA portal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This flight notification isn&#8217;t a permit and doesn\u2019t need approval, it simply lets Qatar know who\u2019s flying there in case you dip into their controlled airspace unexpectedly.<\/p>\n<p>Notifications are submitted through the same <a href=\"https:\/\/caa.gov.qa\/en\/non-scheduled-flights-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">QCAA portal<\/a> used for permits.
