{"id":2744,"date":"2017-10-19T19:07:57","date_gmt":"2017-10-19T23:07:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/?p=2744"},"modified":"2017-10-19T19:07:57","modified_gmt":"2017-10-19T23:07:57","slug":"baghdad-fir-still-reopening-but-wait-a-little","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/baghdad-fir-still-reopening-but-wait-a-little\/","title":{"rendered":"Baghdad FIR still reopening &#8211; but wait a little"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, last week we told you that <strong>Iraqi Airspace was about to <a href=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/iraq-airspace-to-re-open-for-overflights\/\">re-open to international overflights<\/a><\/strong>. It still is, though the bit where it was going to happen this week is no longer true.<\/p>\n<p>The FAA were about to hit &#8216;publish&#8217; on a Notam this past Monday,\u00a0 which would have enabled US airlines to start overflying Iraq again. The text of this Notam included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An amendment to the existing Iraq restriction<\/li>\n<li><strong>An authorisation for US airlines and operators to overfly Iraq at or above FL260<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But then, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2017\/10\/17\/middleeast\/kirkuk-iraq-kurdish-peshmerga\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">military operation<\/a> by Iraqi forces to take control of Kirkuk from the Kurds the same day, created concern as to overflight safety. <strong>Kirkuk sits pretty much underneath the UM860 airway\u00a0<\/strong>on the map below.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/FSB-Iraq-Airspace.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2624\" src=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/FSB-Iraq-Airspace-1024x607.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"676\" height=\"401\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/FSB-Iraq-Airspace-1024x607.png 1024w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/FSB-Iraq-Airspace-300x178.png 300w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/FSB-Iraq-Airspace-768x455.png 768w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/FSB-Iraq-Airspace-676x400.png 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 676px) 100vw, 676px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So for now, do nothing and wait.
