{"id":27398,"date":"2025-04-15T02:26:02","date_gmt":"2025-04-15T06:26:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/?p=27398"},"modified":"2025-04-16T17:56:54","modified_gmt":"2025-04-16T21:56:54","slug":"ola-brazil-new-entry-rules-for-us-canada-and-australian-citizens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/ola-brazil-new-entry-rules-for-us-canada-and-australian-citizens\/","title":{"rendered":"Ol\u00e1 Brazil: New Entry Rules for US, Canadian and Australian Citizens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Key Points<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Effective April 10, all US, Canadian and Australian citizens entering Brazil <a href=\"https:\/\/brazil.vfsevisa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">now need<\/a> a <strong>valid visa.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The visa waiver which has been in place since 2019 is no more.<\/li>\n<li>April\u2019s news may come as a surprise to passengers who might not be aware of the new requirement \u2013 and <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">there is no option to obtain one on arrival.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Operating crew<\/strong> are exempt (with some gotchas).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Why the change?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Back in 2019, visa requirements were dropped for the US, Canada and Australia. The previous President did so to boost tourism and trade.<\/p>\n<p>However, it was a one-way move as Brazilian citizens still needed a visa to enter those countries.<\/p>\n<p>Brazil has long since had a diplomatic policy of <strong>reciprocity<\/strong>. The new visa rules signify a return to this principle.<\/p>\n<p>For operators, it\u2019s simply a new rule we need to navigate.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_27401\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-27401\" class=\"size-large wp-image-27401\" src=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Rio-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Rio-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Rio-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Rio-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Rio.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-27401\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">New visa requirements may catch passengers off guard &#8211; especially for tourist attractions like Carnival.<\/p><\/div>\n<h4><strong>How to get a visa.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Citizens of the US, Canada and Australia now<a href=\"https:\/\/brazil.vfsevisa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> need to apply<\/a> for an electronic visa to enter Brazil.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s strongly recommended to do this at least <strong>15 days\u2019 prior<\/strong> as it can take some time to process.<\/p>\n<p>Once issued, it will be valid for <strong>multiple entries<\/strong> for the next ten years.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure your pax carry at least two printed copies for authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Be careful, because <strong><u>they can\u2019t get one on arrival.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_27403\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/brazil.vfsevisa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-27403\" class=\"wp-image-27403 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Visa-1024x370.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"370\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Visa-1024x370.png 1024w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Visa-300x108.png 300w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Visa-768x278.png 768w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Visa.png 1162w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-27403\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">You can access the e-visa system via the link above.<\/p><\/div>\n<h4><strong>What about crew?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Great question. We reached out to several local agents for a clarification on the rules for crew.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>While some advice was conflicting, the general consensus was that operating <strong>crew are exempt<\/strong> from the visa requirement and usually granted entry for up to ten days (regardless of nationality).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.universalaviation.aero\/locations\/brazil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Universal Aviation Brazil<\/a> has confirmed that to qualify, they must meet the following conditions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Are on active duty;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Are listed as operating crew on the GENDEC;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Are in uniform on arrival;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Present a pilots\u2019 license;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>And (obviously) have a valid passport.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Some trouble has been reported for <strong>flight engineers and flight attendants<\/strong> who are not explicitly covered by this exemption policy (even if they are listed on the GENDEC).<\/p>\n<p>In some cases, they have been allowed entry but this is <strong><u>not<\/u><\/strong> guaranteed.<\/p>\n<p>To avoid trouble, we recommend that a visa is obtained for these staff beforehand to avoid the problem entirely \u2013 cost is approx. $80USD per person.<\/p>\n<p>Another chestnut to look out for is crew who are <strong>positioning<\/strong> to Brazil either with you, or on an airline service.
