{"id":26836,"date":"2025-01-29T04:51:26","date_gmt":"2025-01-29T09:51:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/?p=26836"},"modified":"2025-01-29T20:55:16","modified_gmt":"2025-01-30T01:55:16","slug":"palm-beach-tfrs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/palm-beach-tfrs\/","title":{"rendered":"Palm Beach TFRs: The President&#8217;s Back In Town"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6>Key Points<\/h6>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>During President Trump\u2019s second term, TFRs will periodically be activated over KPBI\/Palm Beach.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Two rings will apply \u2013 a 10nm inner ring, and a 10-30nm outer ring.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Aircraft wishing to operate inside the inner ring (all KPBI departures and arrivals) will require TSA pre-screening. Inbound aircraft must depart one of five gateway airports.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The 10 \u2013 30nm ring will only be available to aircraft operating in and out of local airports but will not require pre-screening.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>These restrictions will only apply when activated by NOTAM.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>A local TFR request form is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">only<\/span> required for utility aircraft required to &#8216;loiter&#8217; in the TFR such as aerial survey, banner and ag-aircraft.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Home-sweet-home<\/h4>\n<p>The start of President Trump\u2019s second term in the White House also means a return of a TFRs over <strong>KPBI\/Palm Beach<\/strong> and Southern Florida.<\/p>\n<p>The Mar-a-Lago Estate has been his primary residence since 2019 \u2013 a little over 5nm east of the field. Which means that whenever he comes and goes, operations will be heavily disrupted at the airport.<\/p>\n<p>The FAA has <a href=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/2025-PBI-TFRs.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published a reminder of procedures<\/a> for when the presidential TFRs are active. Here is a brief summary of what you need to know.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_26847\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26847\" class=\"size-large wp-image-26847\" src=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/mar-1024x614.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"614\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/mar-1024x614.webp 1024w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/mar-300x180.webp 300w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/mar-768x461.webp 768w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/mar.webp 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-26847\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Mar-a-Lago residence, not far from KPBI.<\/p><\/div>\n<h4>Flight Restrictions<\/h4>\n<p><em>The Presidential TFR is comprised of two rings, centered on KPBI airport.<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-26867\" src=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/PBI-TFR-Map-V2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"944\" height=\"519\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/PBI-TFR-Map-V2.png 944w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/PBI-TFR-Map-V2-300x165.png 300w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/PBI-TFR-Map-V2-768x422.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 944px) 100vw, 944px\" \/>The FAA has warned operators that TFR activation will be <strong>unpredictable in frequency and duration<\/strong>, so make sure you continue to check the current NOTAMs.<\/p>\n<h4>The Inner Ring (Most Restrictive)<\/h4>\n<p>A 10nm radius applies and extends from surface to <strong>17,999\u2019 MSL.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When active, all aircraft in and out of <strong>KPBI\/Palm Beach<\/strong> will require <strong>TSA pre-screening.<\/strong> Once complete, aircraft details will be broadcast over the FAA Domestic Events Network \u2013 which includes all ARTCCs and various other Federal agencies.<\/p>\n<p>For departures, this is available at the following FBOs between 0800 and 1700 local: Atlantic, Jet, Net Jets and Signature.<\/p>\n<p>For arrivals, you will need to depart from one of the following five gateway airports:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>KHPN\/White Plains\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>KTEB\/Teterboro<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>KIAD\/Washington Dulles<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>KMCO\/Orlando<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>KFLL\/Fort Lauderdale<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once pre-screened, <strong>intermediate stops are not allowed<\/strong> unless you have a bona-fide emergency.<\/p>\n<p>In both cases you\u2019ll need to register for screening at least 24 hours before your departure. Reservations are available by calling 561-616-9650.<\/p>\n<h4>Air Force One Inbound<\/h4>\n<p>If you happen to be on the field when the President arrives, a <strong>ramp freeze<\/strong> will be enforced starting from seven minutes (or so) prior to his arrival.<\/p>\n<p>A security inspection will be carried out on the runway after which it will be kept clear.<\/p>\n<p>Once he (or any other VIP) has left the airport, the freeze will be&#8230;well, defrosted, and normal ops will resume \u2013 albeit Air Force 1 itself will remain under heavy security.<\/p>\n<p>An <strong>important note<\/strong> from the FAA that\u2019s easy to miss! If a pre-screened aircraft is holding for this process and reaches minimum or divert fuel, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">let ATC know<\/span>. They may be able to get you special permission to land, but it\u2019s not a guarantee.<\/p>\n<p>Consider<strong> extra holding fuel<\/strong> if arriving during an active TFR. Expect some holding!<\/p><\/div>\n<h4>Outer Ring (less restrictive)<\/h4>\n<p>The outer ring extends from 10 to 30nm from PBI airport, from surface to 17,999\u2019 MSL.<\/p>\n<p>TSA pre-screening is <strong>not required,<\/strong> however only aircraft arriving or departing local airfields will be allowed. If things are <em>really <\/em>quiet, a transit clearance may be granted by ATC. However, any \u2018loitering\u2019 or other such tomfoolery is not allowed.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Discrete Squawks \ud83e\udd86<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>All aircraft inside either ring will be required to<strong> squawk a discrete code<\/strong> and maintain constant contact with ATC on VHF.<\/p>\n<p>The friendly folk at PBI ATC have clarified the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Departing PBI &#8211;\u00a0<\/em>code will be allocated by clearance delivery.<\/li>\n<li><em>Departing a satellite airport <\/em>&#8211; call TRACON prior to departing on 561-684-9047 to request a squawk and departure frequency.<\/li>\n<li><em>Arriving at a satellite airport &#8211; <\/em>call ATC prior to entering the 30nm ring to obtain a code and get radar identified.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Or better yet, avoid the TFRs completely.<\/h4>\n<p>All sounds too hard?<\/p>\n<p>Presidential TFRs will only be activated when the president is in town. At all other times it will be <strong>ops-normal<\/strong> at PBI and nearby airfields.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re planning a trip here, it\u2019s important you monitor the NOTAMs closely. The FAA endeavors to provide at least 72 hours\u2019 notice. You can also check the TFR website <a href=\"https:\/\/tfr.faa.gov\/tfr2\/list.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4>Asking for a friend, what do you do if intercepted?<\/h4>\n<p>Don\u2019t panic.
