{"id":24119,"date":"2024-05-14T09:38:32","date_gmt":"2024-05-14T13:38:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/?p=24119"},"modified":"2024-08-02T06:07:46","modified_gmt":"2024-08-02T10:07:46","slug":"us-domestic-enroute-cpdlc-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/us-domestic-enroute-cpdlc-update\/","title":{"rendered":"US Domestic Enroute CPDLC Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6><strong>Key Points<\/strong><\/h6>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><strong>Domestic en-route CPDLC in the US is now available to everyone &#8211; the Notam limiting GA\/BA participation to approved trial participants has been removed.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><strong>To get CPDLC, you\u2019ve got to have the right avionics and submit a form &#8211; the FAA has published a list of aircraft types, which you will need to check to see if you comply.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Here&#8217;s a very brief summary. For the full, untarnished info, head to the dedicated FAA site <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/air_traffic\/technology\/DataComm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>So for a long time, domestic en-route CPDLC in the US was only available to operators of bizav aircraft who were signed up to the FAA trial. VDLM2 is the only approved media for participation in the domestic U.S.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Ensure that both the \u2018J4\u2019 code in the field 10a equipment field as well as the FANSE (e.g. \u20181FANSE2PDC\u2019) DAT Code in field 18 (other information\/DAT) are both included on the flight plan to indicate eligibility for U.S. Domestic En Route CPDLC (see the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.l3harris.com\/datacomm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s2\">US Domestic Flight and Planning Guide<\/span><\/a> for more information).<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Verify that VHF3\/COM3 is set to DATA.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>The aircraft registration\/tail in field 18 (other information\/REG).<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>If you are still researching your avionics in response to questions from L3Harris, p<\/em><em>lease continue to file for CPDLC-DCL only (FANS) until your verification of eligibility is complete.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Also, a member has reported that if you\u2019re now eligible but tried to log on in the past when you were not eligible,<strong> your aircraft reg might have been placed on a \u201cblocked list\u201d.<\/strong> To get off this list, you need to contact\u00a0L3Harris, who will forward to the FAA to ask to unblock you (should take less than 24hrs).<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Where is CPDLC available in the US?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>L3Harris published this updated map on 3 June 2024:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-25859\" src=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Screenshot-2024-07-26-at-11.37.22-1024x611.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"611\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Screenshot-2024-07-26-at-11.37.22-1024x611.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Screenshot-2024-07-26-at-11.37.22-300x179.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Screenshot-2024-07-26-at-11.37.22-768x458.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Screenshot-2024-07-26-at-11.37.22-1536x916.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Screenshot-2024-07-26-at-11.37.22.jpg 1656w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Come on, Albuquerque and Memphis!<\/p>\n<h4>So do I need CPDLC now?<\/h4>\n<p>No. US domestic datalink is not mandated.<\/p>\n<h4>What if I\u2019m flying into the US internationally?<\/h4>\n<p>L3Harris have published a guide answering this very question.
