{"id":23732,"date":"2024-10-29T00:01:03","date_gmt":"2024-10-29T04:01:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/?p=23732"},"modified":"2024-11-12T10:19:29","modified_gmt":"2024-11-12T15:19:29","slug":"bizav-roadblock-turkey-and-armenia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/bizav-roadblock-turkey-and-armenia\/","title":{"rendered":"Bizav Roadblock: Turkey and Armenia"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6><strong>UPDATE 30 Oct 2024:<\/strong><\/h6>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Turkey has reportedly started allowing bizav overflights heading to\/from Armenia. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>This issue stretches back to May 2023, but Turkey dropped the restriction in Sep 2024. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>So if you\u2019re heading to Armenia (UDYZ\/Yerevan, for example), you can now overfly Turkey &#8211; you no longer have to route around the country or make a stop somewhere like UGTB\/Tbilisi in Georgia.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Turkish Ban<\/h4>\n<p>Back in May 2023, Armenian airline FlyOne operating a Paris-Yerevan flight had to make an emergency landing in Chisinau after being <strong>denied entry to Turkish airspace.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Turkey reportedly applied this <strong>last-minute ban<\/strong> in response to a monument erected in Yerevan the previous week, which they were unhappy about.<\/p>\n<p>Pretty soon after, FlyOne evidently managed to resume Turkey overflights, but it seems that this restriction was <strong>still informally applied to bizav overflight requests.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_23765\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23765\" class=\"wp-image-23765 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/KIV-EVN-1024x625.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"625\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/KIV-EVN-1024x625.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/KIV-EVN-300x183.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/KIV-EVN-768x469.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/KIV-EVN-1536x938.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/KIV-EVN.jpg 1871w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-23765\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">30 Oct 2023: FlyOne from Chisinau to Yerevan merrily overflying Turkish airspace again.<\/p><\/div>\n<h4>OPSGROUP Member Reports<\/h4>\n<p>There was no Notam published on this issue, nor anything mentioned in the Turkish AIP. But some operators made <strong>tech-stops in Georgia<\/strong> to fix the problem.
