It then became mandatory in <span style=\"color: #008000;\">Class B airspace<\/span> (above FL125) in May 2024. This needs to be attached to an antenna that can broadcast to ADS-B receivers both on the ground, and in space.<\/li>\n<li>You can also find more on this in<a href=\"https:\/\/tc.canada.ca\/en\/corporate-services\/acts-regulations\/list-regulations\/canadian-aviation-regulations-sor-96-433\/standards\/airworthiness-chapter-551-aircraft-equipment-installation-canadian-aviation-regulations-cars#551_103\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> section 551.103<\/a>\u00a0of the <strong>Canadian Aviation Regulations.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Extra Flight Planning Requirements<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>If you plan on entering airspace where the ADS-B mandate applies, there is some extra stuff you need to include in item 10b of your <strong>ICAO flight plan<\/strong> (assuming you have all the right gear on board).<\/li>\n<li>Use the code <strong>B1<\/strong>\u00a0if you have ADS-B Out only, or <strong>B2<\/strong>\u00a0if you have ADS-B In <em>and<\/em> Out.<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019ll also need to include <strong>SUR\/CANMANDATE<\/strong>\u00a0in item 18.<\/li>\n<li><strong>One other gotcha<\/strong> \u2013 make sure the flight identification (flight number or aircraft reg) broadcast by your ADS-B equipment exactly matches the one used in item 7 of your flight plan. Lest there be trouble down the track!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>My ride doesn\u2019t have this fanciness.
