{"id":22310,"date":"2023-05-15T07:35:29","date_gmt":"2023-05-15T11:35:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/?p=22310"},"modified":"2023-05-15T07:42:00","modified_gmt":"2023-05-15T11:42:00","slug":"movie-stars-and-racing-cars-special-flight-ops-in-southern-france","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/movie-stars-and-racing-cars-special-flight-ops-in-southern-france\/","title":{"rendered":"Movie Stars and Racing Cars: Special Flight Ops in Southern France"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The sun\u2019s back out in Southern France, and so are the high rollers, race car drivers and movie stars.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s right \u2013 it\u2019s that time of year again, with two major events stacked back-to-back \u2013 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.festival-cannes.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cannes Film Festival<\/a> (May 16 \u2013 27) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/racing\/2022\/Monaco.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Monaco Grand Prix.<\/a> It\u2019s the jewel of the F1 calendar (May 25-28).<\/p>\n<p>This means an influx of business jet traffic to two major airports \u2013 <strong>LFMD\/Cannes<\/strong> and <strong>LFMN\/Nice,<\/strong> where some of the world\u2019s wealthiest will come out to play.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not all caviar and roulette though \u2013 you\u2019ll still need to be able to land there first. <strong>Three AIP SUPs<\/strong> have been published to help that happen. Here\u2019s what you need to know about them.<\/p>\n<h4>LFMD\/Cannes<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sia.aviation-civile.gouv.fr\/documents\/download\/f\/d\/10487203\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AIP SUP 30\/23<\/a> has the deets here.<\/p>\n<p>The airport itself isn\u2019t normally co-ordinated, but you\u2019ll <strong>need a slot<\/strong> to go there between May 16 \u2013 29. That info is found on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cohor.org\/\">this website.<\/a> The apron is going to be chock-a-block too &#8211; a word of warning, you won&#8217;t be allocated a slot unless you have confirmed parking too.<\/p>\n<p>If you like to manage things yourself on the ground, you\u2019re out of luck. Handling services will be mandatory during this period, and it seems there\u2019s only port-of-call:<\/p>\n<p><strong>AEROPORT CANNES MANDELIEU \/ SKY VALET<br \/>\n<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cy.myhandlingsoftware.com\">https:\/\/cy.myhandlingsoftware.com<\/a><br \/>\nE-mail: <a href=\"mailto:operations-acm@cote-azur.aeroport.fr\">operations-acm@cote-azur.aeroport.fr<\/a><br \/>\nPhone : +33 (0) 4 93 90 41 10<\/p>\n<p>You may not get your requested slot, so a little flexibility may help here. When you get an <strong>authorisation number<\/strong>, this will need to go into Item 18 of your flight plan. Without it, EUROCONTROL will likely refuse it.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t be tempted to fly the hop between Cannes and Nice either, in either direction. These flights will be <strong>banned<\/strong> between May 26 \u2013 29.<\/p>\n<h4>LFMN\/Nice<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sia.aviation-civile.gouv.fr\/documents\/download\/f\/d\/10487188\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AIP SUP 27\/23<\/a> is the one to check out here.<\/p>\n<p>Nice is co-ordinated year-round, so there\u2019s less of a surprise. As above, you\u2019ll need to co-ordinate a slot to arrive or depart.<\/p>\n<p>Once again, hiring ground handling services will be mandatory. This time there is a little more choice though. In fact, it is the second smallest country in the world and is found on France\u2019s C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur \u2013 its south-eastern coast. Inside Monaco is the district of <strong>Monte Carlo,<\/strong> where the F1 race is taking place. For <strong>IFR traffic departing on a SID<\/strong>, it is important to follow published climb gradients and altitude requirements. If you don\u2019t think you\u2019ll make it \u2013 let ATC know with your start request.
