The FAA has said the Notam system \u201ccontinues to remain operational and stable\u201d today. For ops to\/within the US today, keep an eye on the latest FAA Advisories <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fly.faa.gov\/adv\/advAdvisoryForm.jsp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The US grounded all flights on the morning of Jan 11, due to a glitch with the Notam system.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"giphy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/3o7qE2HzB4rOFQr4zK\" width=\"400\" height=\"209\u201d frameBorder=\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fly.faa.gov\/adv\/advAdvisoryForm.jsp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATCSCC advisory<\/a> giving the order:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-20990\" src=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/ground-stop-1024x377.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"801\" height=\"295\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/ground-stop-1024x377.png 1024w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/ground-stop-300x111.png 300w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/ground-stop-768x283.png 768w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/ground-stop-1536x566.png 1536w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/ground-stop-2048x755.png 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 801px) 100vw, 801px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Notam system failed at 2028 UTC on Jan 10, after which time no new Notams or amendments were processed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The FAA lifted the ground stop shortly before 9am EST on Jan 11, <\/strong>saying that &#8220;normal air traffic operations are resuming gradually&#8221;. Later that night, they announced that the outage was <strong>likely due to a software issue.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Update 6: We are continuing\u00a0a thorough\u00a0review to determine the root cause of the Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) system outage.\u00a0Our\u00a0preliminary\u00a0work has\u00a0traced the outage to a damaged database\u00a0file.\u00a0At this time, there is no evidence of a cyber attack. (1\/2)<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; The FAA \u2708\ufe0f (@FAANews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FAANews\/status\/1613317775132336129?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 11, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Springer&#8217;s Final Thought<\/h4>\n<p><strong>We all hate Notams.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s qualify that. <em>A significant number of pilots and dispatchers have told us that they are <a href=\"https:\/\/fixingnotams.org\/the-problem-why-are-pilots-deeply-concerned-about-notams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">concerned about Notams<\/a>, and would like to see an improved system.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The FAA has said last week&#8217;s meltdown was due to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/newsroom\/faa-notam-statement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">damaged database file<\/a>.
