{"id":20100,"date":"2022-10-12T09:40:31","date_gmt":"2022-10-12T13:40:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/?p=20100"},"modified":"2022-10-19T09:44:17","modified_gmt":"2022-10-19T13:44:17","slug":"where-have-africas-notams-gone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/where-have-africas-notams-gone\/","title":{"rendered":"Where have Africa&#8217;s Notams gone?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ASECNA have <a href=\"https:\/\/aim.asecna.aero\/html\/index-fr-FR.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a secret treasure trove of AIP SUPs<\/a> on all kinds of airport closures and other fairly essential info that <strong>doesn\u2019t seem to be getting published by Notam.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Now, it might be because these are relatively <i>long <\/i>things and as you may recall, Notams shouldn\u2019t really be<strong> valid for longer than 3 months<\/strong> because then it is less temporary and more, well, lengthy.<\/p>\n<p>But there are still some in there that we really would expect to see as notams. Such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>FOON\/Franceville<\/strong>, Gabon having potholes in its runway and so not allowing operations on runway 33 from Oct 4 to Dec 31.<\/li>\n<li><strong>GOSS\/Saint Louis<\/strong>, Senegal is closed to all traffic for works from Oct 5 to Dec 27.<\/li>\n<li><strong>DXXX\/Lome<\/strong>, Togo is having works until Dec 31 so folk should watch out for workers and their machinery during taxi.<\/li>\n<li><strong>GOGG\/Ziguinchor<\/strong>, Senegal is closed from Sep 19 to Feb 28 2023 because of security works.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And that&#8217;s just the obvious ones we spotted &#8211; <strong>there are plenty more!<\/strong> Here&#8217;s the list of &#8216;latest news&#8217; list they publish:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-20109\" src=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Screenshot-2022-10-17-at-12.36.40-1024x732.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"732\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Screenshot-2022-10-17-at-12.36.40-1024x732.png 1024w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Screenshot-2022-10-17-at-12.36.40-300x214.png 300w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Screenshot-2022-10-17-at-12.36.40-768x549.png 768w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Screenshot-2022-10-17-at-12.36.40-1536x1098.png 1536w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Screenshot-2022-10-17-at-12.36.40.png 2027w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">So the point really is, <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 16px;\" href=\"https:\/\/aim.asecna.aero\/html\/index-fr-FR.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">check this page <\/a><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">if you are planning <\/span><em>Togo<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"> into or over ASECNA countries because things that could impact your operation do not seem to be Notam-ed, and they could have a significant impact, particularly with regards <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">alternate and en-route aerodromes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And if you\u2019ve <em>Benin<\/em> an ASECNA country or airspace and have experienced issues (with un-Notamed stuff or anything else) then <strong>please drop us an email with the details<\/strong> on <a href=\"mailto:news@ops.group\">news@ops.group<\/a>\u00a0so we can share the info around to other folk.<\/p>\n<p><em>(Sorry for the puns. In June 2022 they also<a href=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/free-route-airspace-around-the-world\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> started implementing Free Route Airspace<\/a>, and they have a pretty <strong>decent ADS-B service<\/strong> set up across the region.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/hedging-bets-why-africa-is-low-on-fuel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Then there has been the fuel shortage woes.<\/a> This isn\u2019t necessarily within ASECNA airspace, but impacts the entire region so worth a mention.<\/p>\n<h4>What about airspace safety?<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Chad<\/strong> (the FTTT\/N\u2019Djamena FIR and FTTJ\/N\u2019Djamena international) saw land and air borders closures in 2021 following the death of their President and effectively a <a href=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/chad-airspace-update\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">military rule brought in.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mali<\/strong> had a military coup and <a href=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/sanctions-hit-mali-bans-flights-from-neighbouring-countries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reneged on agreements to hold elections<\/a>, leading to sanctions from the rest of ECOWAS (their neighbours) which resulted in closures of land and air borders.<\/p>\n<h4>Flown in to any of these countries recently?
