{"id":17539,"date":"2022-07-18T00:01:26","date_gmt":"2022-07-18T04:01:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/?p=17539"},"modified":"2022-07-20T10:18:19","modified_gmt":"2022-07-20T14:18:19","slug":"the-faa-northeast-corridor-atlantic-coast-routes-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/the-faa-northeast-corridor-atlantic-coast-routes-project\/","title":{"rendered":"The FAA Northeast Corridor Atlantic Coast Routes Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"background-color: #fffd08;\">Update 18 July 2022:<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0The FAA has postponed the final phase of its \u2018Northeast Corridor Atlantic Coast Routes Project.\u2019 A whole bunch of new and modified routes along the East Coast were meant to become active from Nov 3. This has been pushed back until 20 April 2023 to avoid the busy summer and winter peaks. The new procedures will still be published in September, but will not be authorized for use until then.<\/p>\n<h4>Where are we talking about?<\/h4>\n<p><b>The Airspace: <\/b>All along the Atlantic East coast of the US.<\/p>\n<p><b>The Airports: <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>KBWI\/Baltimore Washington<\/li>\n<li>KIAD\/Dulles<\/li>\n<li>KDCA\/Ronald Reagan<\/li>\n<li>KHEF\/Manassas<\/li>\n<li>KADW\/Joint Base Andrews<\/li>\n<li>KPHL\/Philadelphia<\/li>\n<li>KEWR\/Newark<\/li>\n<li>KTEB\/Teterboro<\/li>\n<li>KLGA\/La Guardia<\/li>\n<li>KDOV\/Dover Air Force Base<\/li>\n<li>KWRI\/McGuire Air Force Base<\/li>\n<li>KCHS\/Charleston<\/li>\n<li>KJZI\/Charleston Executive<\/li>\n<li>KATL\/Hartsfield-Jackson<\/li>\n<li>KRDU\/Raleigh-Durham<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>What&#8217;s changing?<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Q, Y and J Routes<\/strong> are changing &#8211; some have been amended, some have been deleted and some are brand new. There are also someone SIDs and STARs. Basically, the whole airspace is getting PBN-ed up!<\/p>\n<p>The main change is a large number of new or modified routes (more than 150 in fact) which will replace the existing<strong> high-altitude route structure<\/strong> up and down the East Coast. Basically, J Routes are out, new or amended Q and Y Routes are in.<\/p>\n<p>Why? Because PBN (less ground-based Navaids).<\/p>\n<p>This will include<strong> super high sector routes<\/strong> (that\u2019s FL400 and above). This means time and fuel savings for the operators operating in this region, as well as increased safety!<\/p>\n<h4>What has happened so far?<\/h4>\n<p>You\u2019re going to have been seeing a lot of this already, it&#8217;s been going on since 2019 with 106 route changes implemented so far.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In May 2021 two Q-Routes (Q75 and Q475) were amended.<\/li>\n<li>Through the rest of 2020 a large number of J-Rouete were deleted, and modified Q-Route were brought in.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>AR7 and AR25 were removed.<\/li>\n<li>There was also the whole<strong> Florida Metroplex<\/strong> stuff, <a href=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/the-central-florida-metroplex\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">which we mentioned before here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>And a bunch of new, amended, deleted SIDs and STARs at the major airports along this region<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_12487\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12487\" class=\"wp-image-12487 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-24-at-11.54.02-AM-1024x735.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"735\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-24-at-11.54.02-AM-1024x735.png 1024w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-24-at-11.54.02-AM-300x215.png 300w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-24-at-11.54.02-AM-768x552.png 768w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-24-at-11.54.02-AM.png 1146w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-12487\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Florida bit of the project.<\/p><\/div>\n<h4>So what do you <strong>really<\/strong> need to know?<\/h4>\n<p>The route changes will be published September 8. They will go active 20 April 2023.
