{"id":1687,"date":"2017-05-21T20:21:50","date_gmt":"2017-05-22T00:21:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/?p=1687"},"modified":"2017-05-21T20:21:50","modified_gmt":"2017-05-22T00:21:50","slug":"airbus-380-flips-cl604-full-report-is-now-published","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/airbus-380-flips-cl604-full-report-is-now-published\/","title":{"rendered":"Airbus 380 flips CL604 &#8211; full report is now published"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Interim report finally released by the German BFU<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Flight Service Bureau version of events confirmed<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>New pictures released by the investigators<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Back in March, FSB covered a major wake turbulence upset experienced\u00a0by a Challenger 604 after passing an A380.<\/strong>\u00a0 After our <a href=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/enroute-a380-wake-flips-challenger-604-upside-down\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">initial story<\/a> was published, it was covered\u00a0in various versions in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/article\/private-jet-flipped-in-superjumbo-s-wake-bgr2s5blc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Times<\/a>\u00a0of London, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flyingmag.com\/increased-lateral-separation-urged-as-a380s-wake-flips-challenger-604\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Flying<\/a>\u00a0magazine, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ainonline.com\/aviation-news\/business-aviation\/2017-03-20\/challenger-accident-spurs-cautions-a380-separation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AIN<\/a>\u00a0Business Aviation News, \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/german-business-jet-flipped-three-times-by-emirates-a380\/a-38014996\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Deutsche Welle<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/world\/private-jet-flipped-over-wake-turbulence-airbus-a380-reports-n736861\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NBC<\/a>. The picture on the Flight Service Bureau <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/flightservicebureau\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">facebook page<\/a> was viewed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/flightservicebureau\/photos\/a.1050965864916787.1073741828.1050961768250530\/1583855598294475\/?type=3&amp;theater\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1.1 million times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>From the interim report, these facts are confirmed<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The incident was caused by the wake from an Airbus A380 at FL350<\/li>\n<li>The Challenger 604 passed directly underneath the A380 at FL340<\/li>\n<li>The wake encounter occurred <strong>48 seconds<\/strong> after the cross &#8211; when the two aircraft were 15nm part<\/li>\n<li>The Challenger initially rolled 42 degrees to the right, then 31 degrees left, and experienced G-Loads of 1.6g positive followed 1 second later by\u00a0-3.2 g.<\/li>\n<li>It lost altitude from FL340 to FL253 over a 2 minute period &#8211; loss of 8700 ft.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In an interview, the crew said:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;<strong>The airplane shook briefly, then rolled heavily to the left and the autopilot disengaged<\/strong>. [We]\u00a0actuated the aileron to the right in order to stop the rolling motion. But the airplane had continued to roll to the left thereby completing several rotations. The highlights are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>As Aircrew<\/strong>, use SLOP whenever you can.<\/li>\n<li><strong>As Controllers<\/strong>, be mindful of smaller aircraft passing underneath A380\u2019s.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid flying the centreline if you can. SLOP 0 is not an offset.
