{"id":1512,"date":"2017-03-08T14:44:01","date_gmt":"2017-03-08T19:44:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/?p=1512"},"modified":"2017-03-08T16:39:39","modified_gmt":"2017-03-08T21:39:39","slug":"big-changes-to-us-border-overflight-rules","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/big-changes-to-us-border-overflight-rules\/","title":{"rendered":"Big changes to US Border Overflight Rules"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are multiple changes to the US Border Overflight Exemption process effective 2017. <strong>Unusually, there is no official notification of the changes<\/strong> from either CBP or DHS, and so you may find that even the Customs Officer on arrival does not know about them.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1515\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1515\" class=\"wp-image-1515 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/630x355.jpg\" width=\"630\" height=\"355\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/630x355.jpg 630w, https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/630x355-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1515\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">New US Border Overflight Exemption rules March 2017<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>The March 2017 changes may be the start of the end for the Border Overflight Exemption<\/strong>, since most requirements from the CBP perspective are transferred to eAPIS: notably,\u00a0the fact that individual aircraft are no longer listed on the Approval Letter.<\/p>\n<p>We were first alerted to the changes by an OpsGroup member, and have spoken with a lot of different DHS and CBP officials. From these conversations, we&#8217;ve put together our summary of the situation below.<\/p>\n<p>Noteworthy is that at many Airports, the front line CBP officers were not aware of the new rules.
