{"id":12938,"date":"2021-04-23T09:28:45","date_gmt":"2021-04-23T13:28:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/?p=12938"},"modified":"2023-05-23T11:24:31","modified_gmt":"2023-05-23T15:24:31","slug":"airport-lowdowns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/airport-lowdowns\/","title":{"rendered":"Introducing: Airport Operational Lowdowns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Ever been bamboozled when flying into airports you&#8217;ve never been to before?<\/strong> You&#8217;re on your approach and all looks good &#8211; straightforward, easy, no threats &#8211; and then, they cut 50nm off your arrival track and suddenly you\u2019re high and fast and this is when your co-pilot (who <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">has<\/span> been there before) turns around and says &#8211; <em>\u201cOh yeah, they always do that!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Or what about that airport where they built a really big hanger in a really silly spot, and you don\u2019t find out about the wind shear off it until you are there, at 30 feet, battling with it?<\/p>\n<h4>Calling All Pilots&#8230;<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>All pilots who operate into random, challenging or interesting airports.<\/li>\n<li>All pilots who do not operate into the same airports regularly.<\/li>\n<li>And all operators, ATC, anyone with a bit of knowledge about an airport for that matter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Following on from our <a href=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/dashboard\/category\/briefings\/chats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OpsChat<\/a> where some of you raised the idea of <strong>briefings on specific airports<\/strong>, we have started to put these together&#8230;<\/p>\n<h4>What\u2019s the idea?<\/h4>\n<p>The idea is a lot of pilots, particularly corporate folk (but this is still for everyone) might not have<strong> access to loads of shared information<\/strong> on specific airports. If you do not fly somewhere regularly, or do not work for a big airline, then the only information you will have on certain airports is what you can read off the charts and in the AOIs.<\/p>\n<p>But we all know there are airports out there which have specific challenges you only discover when you operate in. The <strong>useful, practical, operational stuff.<\/strong> The threats, risks and gotchas that you discover with experience.<\/p>\n<h4>Introducing: Operational Lowdowns<\/h4>\n<p>Our <em>Operational Lowdowns<\/em> are our new way of trying to share this information between you all.<\/p>\n<p>If you have experience going into an airport and spotted something unusual, odd, tricky or interesting then send in that <a href=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/airport-spy-local\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Airport Spy report<\/a>.
