{"id":11355,"date":"2021-01-20T04:46:53","date_gmt":"2021-01-20T09:46:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/?p=11355"},"modified":"2021-03-16T06:04:57","modified_gmt":"2021-03-16T10:04:57","slug":"qatar-blockade-comes-to-an-end","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/qatar-blockade-comes-to-an-end\/","title":{"rendered":"Gulf routings set to ease up as Qatar blockade comes to an end"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After three and a half years of political stalemate, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/qatar-update-its-getting-worse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Gulf blockade against Qatar<\/a> by Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, and Bahrain, is coming to an end. <\/strong>These countries have restored diplomatic relations and opened <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">their borders and airspace to Qatar &#8211; with Egypt also expected to follow suit shortly.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>What does this mean for operators?<\/h4>\n<p>The biggest change seen will be for <strong>aircraft registered in Qatar (A7-)<\/strong> which will now be allowed to route via OEJD\/Jeddah FIR and OMAE\/Emirates FIR, and gain more efficient use of OBBB\/Bahrain FIR &#8211; in addition to reinstated landing rights in those countries. This is as opposed to routing via OIIX\/Tehran FIR, which incurs time and fuel penalties and in the worst cases requires a tech stop.<\/p>\n<p>But this is also good news for<strong> foreign operators.<\/strong> For the past three years, foreign operators had been faced with various different restrictions if trying to fly to\/from Qatar &#8211; they needed special permission from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE if planning to overfly any of those countries, and Bahrain had banned direct flights from Qatar completely.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This has now changed.<\/strong> With Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE lifting their blockade against Qatar, they have cancelled a bunch of Notams which effectively means there are no longer any special requirements for foreign-registered aircraft flying to Qatar via Saudi\/Bahrain\/UAE airspace.\u00a0In short, <strong>more efficient routings are now available<\/strong> if you are operating into, out of, and through the Arabian Gulf region.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the current state of play as of <strong>20\u00a0January 2021:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<table id=\"tablepress-11\" class=\"tablepress tablepress-id-11\">\n<thead>\n<tr class=\"row-1\">\n\t<th class=\"column-1\"><strong>Country<\/strong><\/th><th class=\"column-2\"><strong>Non-QATAR registered<\/strong><\/th><th class=\"column-3\"><strong>QATAR registered<\/strong><\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody class=\"row-striping row-hover\">\n<tr class=\"row-2\">\n\t<td class=\"column-1\"><strong>Egypt (HECC) <\/strong><\/td><td class=\"column-2\">No NOTAM'd restrictions.<\/td><td class=\"column-3\">Ban on Qatar-registered aircraft lifted 11 Jan 2021.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n(NOTAM A0027\/21)<br \/>\nTemporary RNAV route established for Qatar Registered aircraft between Beirut and North African Airports.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr class=\"row-3\">\n\t<td class=\"column-1\"><strong>Bahrain (OBBB)<\/strong><\/td><td class=\"column-2\">No longer any special requirements for foreign-registered aircraft flying to\/from Qatar via Bahrain airspace. However, Bahrain publishes a Standard Routes Document as an <a href=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/OBBB-Bahrain-Standard-Routes-Document.pdf\">AIP SUP<\/a> which contains all the routes they want you to fly, depending on who you are, and where you are flying from\/to. They also publish a bunch of Notams with corrections to this document. We strongly recommend avoiding this airspace entirely.<\/td><td class=\"column-3\">OEJD\/Saudi NOTAM A0604\/17 purports to be a NOTAM \"On behalf of Republic of Yemen\/Aden.\"<br \/>\n\"All aircraft registered in the State of Qatar not authorized to overfly Republic of Yemen airspace.<br \/>\nAlthough it appears Qatar aircraft are not strictly adhering to this. No such NOTAM issued by OYSC FIR.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/safeairspace.net\/yemen\">See Safeairspace.net<\/a> - there is ongoing conflict in the region. Risk Level One - DO NOT FLY.
