{"id":10348,"date":"2020-08-20T11:22:13","date_gmt":"2020-08-20T15:22:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/?p=10348"},"modified":"2020-08-25T11:37:37","modified_gmt":"2020-08-25T15:37:37","slug":"bamako-airport-reopens-following-military-coup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/bamako-airport-reopens-following-military-coup\/","title":{"rendered":"Bamako Airport reopens following military coup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">Bamako Airport has <b>reopened<\/b> following last week\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/af.reuters.com\/article\/topNews\/idAFKBN25K0NT-OZATP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">military coup<\/a> which overthrew the government, though monitor GOOO\/Dakar FIR and GABS\/Bamako Airport Notams for further &#8211; <b>it may change<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Bamako TMA (which sits under the GOOO\/Dakar FIR) remains operational with <b>overflights unaffected<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">ICAO is actively monitoring and ensuring that there is a timely flow of information on continued airspace\/ATC service availability. MedAire have given us a local situation update: with the continuing uncertainty they <b>recommend against overnights<\/b> until things settle. There is likely to be a high demand for emergency\/evac flights in the coming days, and they recommend those to be quick in and outs for now.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Meanwhile, the Northern Mali conflict continues, and there have been no improvements in stability. The US, Germany, France and the UK all have <strong>airspace warnings<\/strong> in place, advising to operate FL250\/260 or higher, and avoiding GATB, GAGO, and GAKL airports. We would suggest, as usual, that a higher level closer to <a href=\"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/what-altitude-is-safe-enough-to-overfly-a-conflict-zone\/\"><span class=\"s1\">FL300 is more sensible<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Senegal and Niger control the airspace over Mali, and they have long-standing Notams (published under the GOOO\/Dakar and DRRR\/Niamey FIRs) warning that <strong>you can only fly between FL320-400 through the entire airspace in Mali north of the GABS\/Bamako TMA<\/strong> due to military ops across the region.
