{"id":1027,"date":"2016-09-25T13:42:58","date_gmt":"2016-09-25T17:42:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/?p=1027"},"modified":"2016-09-25T18:15:21","modified_gmt":"2016-09-25T22:15:21","slug":"robbed-by-the-caa-and-other-horror-stories","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ops.group\/blog\/robbed-by-the-caa-and-other-horror-stories\/","title":{"rendered":"Robbed by the CAA &#8211; and other horror stories"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three of the most recent headlines are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/aireport.co\/reviews\/latest\/FZAA\/\">Rough Runway, Cash Only<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/aireport.co\/reviews\/latest\/FZAA\/\">Don&#8217;t go\u00a0here unless you want to be robbed by the CAA<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/aireport.co\/reviews\/latest\/FZAA\/\">Inbound ATC was frightening<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tempting to joke that this sound like\u00a0Miami, or Nice &#8211; but these are reviews of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/aireport.co\/reviews\/latest\/FZAA\/\">FZAA\/Kinshasa<\/a><\/strong>, in the DRC &#8211; rated at 2.5, one of the lowest Airports on <a href=\"http:\/\/Aireport.co\/reviews\"><strong>Aireport<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>One report reads<\/strong>: &#8220;<em>Don\u2019t go here unless you like to be robbed by the CAA. I was told I was in big trouble for not having an MEL on a private airplane. 500 USD would [apparently] solve everything<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Continuing<\/strong>: &#8220;ATC is terrible, they wanted us to hold right over the airport in the middle of the T\u2019storm we wanted to wait for to pass. I ended up telling him we would hold 15 miles out on the 090 radial. He wasn\u2019t very happy about being over-ruled, but it worked&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>And:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0&#8220;People mill around the airplane looking for fuel drips to collect in their cans. Some guy told me he was a fueling assistant and wanted cash for his kind assistance. The handler is pretty much worthless, he just wants to collect the cash = $2700 USD for a fuel stop in a Falcon 900.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>There are some other horror stories in the database. <a href=\"http:\/\/aireport.co\/reviews\/latest\/SVMI\/\">SVMI\/Caracas, Venezuela<\/a> (&#8220;<strong>Handler demanded $9000 in Cash<\/strong>&#8220;); \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/aireport.co\/reviews\/latest\/VECC\/\">VECC\/Calcutta<\/a> (&#8220;<strong>Immigration was a nightmare<\/strong>&#8220;); <a href=\"http:\/\/aireport.co\/reviews\/latest\/HEAX\/\">HEAX\/Alexandria <\/a>(&#8220;<strong>Handler tried the shakedown<\/strong>&#8220;)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There are also plenty of good reports &#8211; <strong>EGSS\/London Stansted<\/strong> is &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/aireport.co\/reviews\/latest\/EGSS\/\">As easy as it gets in Europe<\/a>&#8220;, <strong>EINN\/Shannon, Ireland<\/strong> is &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/aireport.co\/reviews\/latest\/EINN\/\">Absolutely outstanding<\/a>&#8220;, and <strong>NFFN\/Nadi, Fiji<\/strong> is given &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/aireport.co\/reviews\/latest\/NFFN\/\">Quick Turn, Inexpensive Fuel, and Perfect<\/a>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/aireport.co\/reviews\/latest\/NZAA\/\">NZAA\/Auckland, New Zealand<\/a><\/strong> stands out as getting consistently good reviews: &#8220;Very knowledgeable and helpful staff&#8221;, &#8220;Air Centre One is superb&#8221;, &#8220;Flawless from Gordy&#8221; &#8230; the crew at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aircenterone.co.nz\/corporate-jet-services.php\">Air Centre One<\/a> is clearly keeping their customers very happy.
